For Current weather at our house in Pearland Texas,  go to the weather page.  I use it mainly

to keep an eye on the temperature and humidity in the greenhouse as well as to

accumulate info on how well the cooling and heating system is working.

I have been an amateur radio operator since 1977.  My first call sign was KA5AAW

which was later changed to W5AAW and when I upgraded to an Extra Class License

I requested and received the call sign KR5E.

My wife and I started collecting orchids in the early 70's when we lived in Harrisburg

Pa.and moved them to Atlanta and on to Houston.  In 83 Hurricane Alicia destroyed

almost all of them and we gave it up.  In 2004 we began collecting again and now have

about 250 plants.

The Houston Orchid Society sponsors a Newcomers Group for new members.  This group

meets once a month in addition to the regular HOS meeting and it is usually at one of the

experienced members greenhouses.  This gives newcomers a great opportunity to see how

others grow and maintain their orchids in our local environment.  They can ask questions

and learn to be successful in growing their own plants.  There are always several

experienced growers available for help and guidance.  This page is for the newcomers to

show off their plants and growing areas and for pictures from their monthly meetings.
