The Newcomers July meeting was hosted by Laurie and Sheila Skov at their home in Clear Lake. They have created an
amazing jungle of orchids in their back yard and around the
pool. Laurie and Sheila have taken advantage of our
weather in the Houston area and grow everything outdoors.
In the colder months they cover the entire area in plastic
and fire up a heater.
Laurie provided many useful tips on using PVC tubing to
build all types of shelters and racks for displaying our
plants. We also learned how to bend wire to make all
types of plant hangers. Sheila provided great food for
the group, and everyone raved about the tacos. All
Newcomers also went home with mature phals.
